the millbank theatre 17th of june.
unite tribe play to a sold out local crowd with support from eoin donohoe.
eoin takes the stage at 8:45 and as a hush descends on the audience he approaches the mike.
"good evening". he is in his usual smart/casual attire. the set begins. donohoe is a fantastic guitar player although he hides it well, under his raw and rugged style. the sound is perfect. eoin's songs are extremely well written, his interaction with the crowd unprecedented and as the lights go down after a marvelous performance, there is a real sense of intrigue; can Unite Tribe out shine such an unexpected entertaining and soulful venture by the impressive young donohoe.
To claim they out-shine would be unfair to donohoe but they certainly live up to and in places totally exceed all expectations. The performance by unite tribe, assisted by the temporarily recruited de burca on keys and peire on percussion, is a combination of addictive rhythm and sweet melodies which the crowd seems more than delighted to swallow up. their repour with the crowd, as donohoe before them, is one which could be likened to an old friend. we the audience are made to feel at home with the sounds presented to us in a show that re-examines some old rastafenian-classics as well as introducing us to the more lyrically and musically evolved new sounds of Unite Tribe. blah blah blah.. i had a good laugh, and i am very proud of my friends. its a great achievement.
